Key Areas of Teaching

Our PSHE teaching focusses on three key areas in line with the National Curriculum:

  • Health and Wellbeing

  • Relationships

  • Living in the Wider World

Health and Wellbeing

Topics include mental health awareness, physical activity, nutrition, and healthy sleep habits.

Relationships

Topics include friendships, peer pressure, anti-bullying, family, puberty and in addition for our older students’, consent and sex education.

Living in the Wider World

Topics include British values, staying safe online and offline, addiction, human rights, financial education and careers.

Here are some examples of the visual teaching resources used in lessons.

At DLC we provide highly adapted, visual, and practical lessons to enable all our students to access topic content.  We build on their knowledge over several weeks and end of topic assessment is completed through a ‘Show What You Know’ activity.  Students choose from a range of assessment methods and creatively show their knowledge of the topic. Their work is then displayed on the ‘Show What you Know’ board, which is a fantastic example of the AMAZING work they achieve.
