DLC recognises that the welfare of the child is paramount and takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in its care. Our pupils will be respected and given the space and time to seek support if they are worried, knowing they will be listened to.

At DLC we aim to work proactively with parents, carers and other professionals:

• to educate children

• to keep children safe from harm

• to have children’s welfare prioritised

We ensure that all parents and carers are treated with respect, dignity and courtesy.  DLC will share with parents and carers any concerns we may have about their child unless doing so might place a child at risk of harm.

DLC encourages all parents and carers to disclose any concerns they may have with us. We make parents aware of our Child Protection Policy, which can be found on our website.

Information about Safeguarding is readily available and highly visible throughout the school and we have links with the local community through our Pastoral Team that promote the welfare and safeguarding of students. Staff are highly trained in dealing with safeguarding issues and understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

In line with Safer Recruitment, DLC completes enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and seeks appropriate references before appointing staff.
